Sailung Trek: less touristic area

Sailung also was known as a meeting point of nature and religion is situated southwest from Charikot at Saya Thumka hill. Sailing trek is an area off the beaten trail, therefore; it is less crowded with very few tourists. To start the trek we drive from Kathmandu to Mude enjoying the wonderful scenery along the road (Kathmandu – Jiri). The Sailung trek situated along the border of Ramecchap and Dolakha districts. It has three villages namely Pasiban, Tek Sing, and Solambu.

Sailung named after hundred smaller hills, there are one hundred smaller hills are surrounding. So the Sailung in Nepali word, Sai mean hundred Lung mean windy hill. Sailung trek takes you to Thulo Sailung (3100 meters). Since It is a viewpoint of vast Himalayan range from Makalu to Dhaulagiri. Besides that, you can get the opportunity to see the plain region of Nepal as well as the world’s highest peak Mount Everest (8848 m).

This area is mainly inhabited by Tamangs – an indigenous Buddhists community. The religion is a fusion of Buddhist Lamaism and the Shamanist (Bon culture). It is common for a village to have a Lama and a Jhankri (Shaman). Except for Tamang, you will also encounter with other different ethnic people and will have an opportunity to understand and experience their socio-economic situation, lifestyles, cultures, and professions. This area is very less visited by tourists. Therefore, ideal trekking route for those people who want to avoid the traffics of the main trekking routes in order to enjoy the peace and beauty of nature along with a superb view of the mountains.

Trekking routes decorated with pristine nature, unspoiled culture, and splendid scenes of the Himalayan range from the closest distance. The Sailung trek is a famous Hindu pilgrimage. It is non-touristy trail offers a combination of rich cultural heritage, unsurpassed beauty, biological diversity and socio-economic situation and lifestyle. Sailung trekking journey starts from Dolakha and ends at Namo Buddha then drive back to Kathmandu.

Sailung has a unique environment and is exceptionally rich in bio-diversity which makes this region one of the finest tourist destinations in Nepal. It is not necessary any previous hiking and trekking experience, the just normal walking experience is enough.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1. Kathmandu-Dunge.
Day 2. Dunge-Khola kharka.
Day 3. Khola kharka-Surke.
Day 4. Surke-Doramba.
Day 5. Doramba-Ramechhap(Balwadi).
Day 6. Balwadi-Arubot.
Day 7. Rest
Day 8. Arubot-Kathmandu.
