Sailung also known as a meeting point of nature and religion is situated southwest from Charikot at Saya Thumka hill. This is an area in off the beaten trail therefore; it is less crowded with very few tourists. To start the trek we drive from Kathmandu to Mude enjoying the wonderful scenery along the road (Kathmandu – Jiri). Sailung region is situated along the border of Ramecchap and Dolakha districts. Sailung has three villages namely Pasiban, Tek Sing and Solambu . Sailung trekking is named after hundred smaller hills, there are one hundred smaller hills are surrounding with Sailung so the name is given Sailung in Nepali word Sai mean hundred Lung mean windy hill. Sailung trek takes you to Thulo Sailung (3100 m), it is a view point of vast Himalayan range from Makalu to Dhaulagiri. Beside that you can get the opportunity to see the plain region of Nepal as well as the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848 m).
This area is mainly inhabited by Tamangs – an indigenous Buddhists community whose religion is a fusion of Buddhist Lamaism and the Shamanist (Bon culture). It is common for a village to have a Lama and a Jhankri (Shaman). Except Tamang, you will also encounter with other different ethnic people and will have an opportunity to understand and experience about their socio-economic situation, life styles, cultures and professions. This area is very less visited by tourists therefore, ideal trekking route for those people who want to avoid the traffics of the main trekking routes in order to enjoy the peace and beauty of nature along with superb view of the mountains.

Sailung is a famous Hindu pilgrimage it is non touristy trail offers a combination of rich cultural heritage, unsurpassed beauty, biological diversity and socio-economic situation and life style. Sailung trekking journey starts from Dolakha and ends at Namo buddha then drive back to Kathmandu.
Sailung has a unique environment and is exceptionally rich in bio-diversity which makes this region one of the finest tourist destinations in Nepal, it is not necessary any previous hiking and trekking experience, just normal walking experience is enough.

Day 8. Arubot-Kathmandu.
