The Nar Phu Valley Trek is a newly opened tea house cum camping trek suitable for trekkers with a flair for adventure and a good physique. A less trodden one, this trekking trial is situated in the famous Annapurna Region of Nepal and requires crossing through the Mosokanto La (5099m), Kangla Pass (5200m) and the Tilicho Pass (5230m). As the route basically deals with altitudes over 5000m, proper acclimatization is mandatory. However, no other specific requirements are needed to trek along this exquisitely beautiful route along mind boggling passes, forests, rock formations, canyons, remote villages, monasteries, temples, stupas and gompas enriched with the ethnic variety.

This trail, opened in 2002, starts from Besisahar. From Besisahar, the trail follows the route into Jagat, Dharapani, Chame, Meta and finally into the beautiful Buddhism influenced Phu Valley. The Phu Valley is home to the famous Tashi Lhakhang Gompa whereby the blessings from the Lama Karma Sonam Rimpoche can be obtained. Trekking around the Phu Valley gives an opportunity to closely relate to the Tibetan influenced culture the inhabitants here follow.

The trail then gains elevation from here and moves towards the Nar Valley via the alpine vegetations of Yak Kharka and Panggi Pass. Moving further upwards, trekkers reach the Tilicho Base Camp after passing through Younigar, Kangla Pass, Manag and Khangsar Khola. Kangla Pass is a viewpoint for the snow capped peaks in the region. From here, the lake with the highest altitude in the world, the Tilicho Lake can be visited. Also, the MesoKanto La Pass and the Nama Phu offers spectacular views of the snow capped peaks of the Annapurna ranges.

The perfect months for carrying out the trek are through February to May and September to December. The needs of proper acclimatization arise to prevent any health hazards. Some areas in the trek require camping; otherwise all other lodging facilities throughout the Nar and Phu Valley are good. This trek can also be classified as a religious one due to the cultural and ethnic insight it gives trekkers. The mystical and mysterious hidden valleys of Nar and Phu, are waiting to be explored by anybody with the hunger to embark on this one in a million experience.
